Thanksgiving is such a beautiful holiday. It’s the holiday that wraps up Fall and gets us in the thoughtful spirit for Christmas!
The word “Thanksgiving” can mean a lot of different things to many different people. To me, it’s the day to stuff your face with delicious food while surrounded by the people I love, and that right there my friends is something to be thankful for!
Dissecting the word “Thanksgiving,” to me simply just means “Giving Thanks.” “Giving Thanks” is a task that gets missed a lot in our everyday lives. Somedays it is hard to see why we should be thankful. You know those days when you oversleep, lose your keys and while running out the door you spill coffee all over your new favorite pair of boots? Yeah, those days. Being grateful is the last thing on your mind, but this is the exact moment in time where you should rejoice. Do not let little stupid moments like that ruin your day. Life can be hard, but you need to slow down, count your blessing, and change your attitude because your day will be brighter!
Last week one of my sorority sisters and a great friend, Emme, and I were talking about our love for tea. Emme said, “I think of tea as a hug in a mug,” and I really sat on that. With this in mind, I realized tea is comfort, and it can really set a tone for thoughtfulness about your life and surroundings.
Emme mentioned that she discovered her love of tea from her mother. Her mom drinks tea every day, and as she drinks her tea she sits in her “comfy spot,” and reflects on the love that God gives us in the world every day. Enjoying and being appreciative of the little things that God grants us with every day is a really healthy tool in gaining overall happiness.
It is nice to have one day in the year dedicated to rejoicing in all of the things that we are thankful for, but it needs to be something we carry out daily. It seems like a simple task, but sometimes life gets too busy where we do not take the time to sit down and find our comfy spot to reflect on this beautiful life God has given us!
This Thanksgiving has really made me sit and reflect on everything this past year has granted me. It has been a rollercoaster of emotions, but I am thankful for the ride. The rollercoaster has allowed me to self-reflect on how I can be happy in my own skin. This newfound happiness has allowed me to accept how to embrace this crazy beautiful life God has given me, and that makes me really thankful.
I think it is necessary that we all find our little “comfy spot,” where we can review and give thanks day-to-day. Whether it is drinking a cup of tea, or listening to your favorite music while taking your morning shower, I think it is necessary to take time each day to realize what God has granted you. If we can appreciate, acknowledge, and learn from the bad days, it will just make it easier to be thankful for your overarching life.
The rollercoaster may have many different paths of excitement and hardships, but the grand journey of it all is astonishingly divine. Life may throw us for loops, but we need to remember to turn our obstacles into opportunities and look at the bigger picture. So be thankful for the ride, and enjoy your cup of tea!
